According to MultiChannel, DISH Network is going to make available a long-awaited “USB external storage” solution for its ViP622 MPEG4 High Definition DVR. This will allow users to save content from their receiver to an external hard drive for later viewing. DISH Network plans to charge a one-time fee of $39.99 for the service.

Additionally, DISH Network is scheduling to enable the ethernet port on the ViP622, allowing the satellite receiver to “phone home” and report pay-per-view (PPV) purchases via the internet. Reportedly, this will be the first step in the launch of the DishONLINE video-on-demand service, which may be operational by September 2007.
