Shop by Remote with HSN and DISH Network
It’s becoming a point-and-click world.
Proof of that comes from HSN, formerly the Home Shopping Network. Not content with phone and computer sales, HSN is adding a way to buy things via your TV’s remote control.
The system, called “Shop by Remote” is currently available only on DISH Network. Currently, customers can access the interactive shopping section on DishHOME channel 100. Soon however, subscribers will be able to access the HSN service directly on DISH Network channels 84 and 222 by simply pressing select on their remote when they see an item they want to buy.
Most purchases take less than 60 seconds to complete, less than half the time it takes using HSN’s automated phone service. DISH Network customers with an existing HSN account can use their remote control to almost instantly order the item being shown on HSN as well as the two items preceding it and HSNs “Today’s Special.” The interactive application has the same order customization capabilities (selection of size, color, quantity and features) currently available through traditional HSN ordering methods. Order confirmations appear on the TV screen following each purchase.
Peter Ruben, Executive Vice President of Affiliate Sales & Marketing for HSN, said:

Shop by Remote is only one of the many advanced services HSN is developing to meet its customers’ needs. Additional initiatives include podcasts of recorded and original programming, video-on-demand and streaming live video via http://www.hsn.com. This multi-platform approach enables HSN customers to interact and shop with the network through the medium of their choice when, where and how they want.
